Majestic Myanmar Must-visits part 3: Ngwe Saung Beach

If you’re in the mood for some sun, sand and surf (and seafood!) then you should check out the picturesque Ngwe Saung beach. Located close to Yangon, Ngwe Saung features a scattered array of bustling hotels and resorts along its coast, offering guests the laid back pleasures of really chilled out holiday.

Though a majority of hotels located on its southern end offer seafood options of their own, a hidden gem for affordable, fresh seafood can be found towards its northern end. There, you’ll find the quaint Ngwe Saung village which feeds hungry locals and tourists alike with its vast seafood offerings – from crab, lobster, shrimp and even fishes freshly netted from the sea. Local merchants sell handicrafts of different kinds here too - so if you’re looking for knick-knacks for your loved ones, do make a quick stop at Ngwe Saung village.

Though most places at Ngwe Saung offer easy access to its crystal clear waters and sea sport opportunities, you could even choose to take a boat to some of the smaller islands for a more unique experience. If you’re feeling adventurous, we’d recommend having a go at snorkelling where you’d be able to witness the colourful schools of fish treading through water amidst gorgeous corals.

Also, if you’re tempted by Ngwe Saung’s breathtaking waters and crave for a relaxing swim every now and then, we completely understand. However, swim close to the beach as currents further out have been known to be dangerously strong.

Even if you do eventually grow tired of Ngwe Saung’s glorious beaches (we doubt it, but just in case!), you could travel towards the city of Pathein (3 hours away), or the elephant camp at Padaung Village (about 1 hour away) for a better experience of life in Myanmar. Both journeys offer stunning glimpses into Myanmar’s raw natural scenery and jungle life – a must-see for all nature lovers.

Do take note that some hotels are closed from May to October, although some are open all-year. So if Ngwe Saung beach is on your itinerary, it’s best to check out hotel availability before you plan your trip to Myanmar!
